On Thursday, October 10, the TU Delft is organizing a kick-off event for Transitional Identities at community center Het Zwanenmeer in Amsterdam Noord. Lorna Gibson from Studio Locus shall be talking alongside Thijs van Spaandonk from the Cloud Collection, the district chairperson Esther Lagendijk, and TU Delft tutors and architects, Christopher de Vries and Lindwine Spoormans.
This event is part of the graduation studio Transitional Identities at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft, which conducts design research on community centers in Amsterdam Noord. How do these buildings contribute to collective representation and social cohesion, considering contemporary debates on polarization, multiculturalism, and gentrification? What is the role of the architecture of community centers, and how can it reflect today’s complex society?
With contributions from policymakers and designers actively involved in the organization and design of community centers, we will explore the tension between the ideal of the community center and the reality of everyday practice.
Admission is free.
